Church of Santa Maria dell'Itria
Trapani
This elegant baroque church is located on one of the main streets of the old town of Trapani. Here we venerate Santa Rita da Cascia, who collects a strong devotion of the faithful, and the relics of Fra Santo di S. Domenico, who lived in Trapani in the seventeenth century and promoter of the construction of this church on a previous building of worship.
The baroque facade is on two orders, marked by niches, columns and a window, the eighteenth-century work of Peter Castro (1745). The interior is divided into three naves and contains important works of art, such as the canvas of San Nicolò da Tolentino by Andrea Carreca, the Crucifix by Pietro Orlando, together with the sculptural group in “wood and canvas and glue” depicting the Holy Family, by Andrea Tipa.
