The captain general and viceroy of the Kingdom of Sicily – whose name it bears – started the construction of this tower in 1671, on the north-western end of the city. This massive quadrangular construction, designed by Carlos De Grunembergh, was to defend this area of the city from Turkish pirates.
The Tower, is an iconic city monument, much loved and photographed by travellers who often depict it in their photo travel accounts of Trapani.
