Ruins of the monastery of the SS. Savior
Erice
This place has a double history: noble and religious. Originally, in fact, the building was the palace of Count Chiaramonte, who gave it in 1290 to the Benedictine nuns to make it a monastery.
Despite of this religious complex today remain only the fascinating ruins, it is necessary to observe them by contextualizing them within the enogastronomical history of this area, as they are connected to the tradition of abbey’s sweets.
Inside the building there are the working rooms of the nuns, the garden and the ovens, where once took place the bread making for the monastery and for the poor, as well as the preparation of the delicious sweets still prepared today in the renowned local pastry shops.
