Walking through the ruins of Poggioreale Antica is like being on a set of a dramatic, post-war film. Here the cry of a tragedy is more alive than ever, that of the Belice earthquake which also destroyed Poggioreale, an ancient rural centre founded in 1642 by Marquis Francisco Morso di Gibellina.
The modern Poggioreale, the one inhabited by the living, is located a few kilometers from the original town. Of the Poggioreale destroyed by the devastating earthquake of ’68 remain today the remains of the buildings in which have been crystallized, as in a modern Pompeii, moments of life, fragments of daily stories.
