Pepoli Tower
Lighthouse of Peace of the Mediterranean
Built at the behest of Count Agostino Sieri Pepoli – scholar and patron – between 1872 and 1880, the “turret” is a building structure characterized by an original style, Moorish and medieval traits immersed in the green lung of the Balio Garden. This structure, shaped by the inspiration of the Count, had the function of buen retiro for his meditations, but also as a meeting place, also intended to accommodate distinguished guests from the cultural world, such as the man of letters Ugo Antonio Amico, the musicologist Alberto Favara, the archaeologist Antonino Salinas, the minister Nunzio Nasi and others.
Following a careful restoration, the Tower was recently inaugurated in its new destination of use for the tourist-cultural fruition, as permanent Observatory of Peace and Lighthouse of the Mediterranean.
