Castellammare del Golfo
The symbol of Castellammare is its harbor overlooking the homonymous gulf, next to the Castle. Since at least the 5th century B.C., the harbor has been an important commercial port when Castellammare was an emporium of Segesta. Today, it is a marina with several piers for boats on the west bank, while fishing boats are moored on the east bank. From the harbor, you can climb to the historic center through the many typical staircases of the town. Even the ancient Arabic name of the town, Al-Madarig, referred to a historic staircase. Today, among the stairs, the “Rotary Staircase for Peace” stands out, reached from the Castle bridge to the Marina. Along the eighty-five steps, you can admire tiles depicting views of Castellammare and the surrounding area.
