Coast and Beaches
Castellammare del Golfo
Along the coastline, beautiful sandy beaches and small coves with unique character are hidden, all connected by crystal-clear waters. Next to the castle, you’ll find Cala Campana and Cala Petrolo, the latter accessible by a staircase that descends from the historic center of Castellammare del Golfo to the sea. The tuff wall, near the beach, conceals some wells used as chutes for transporting wheat, ancient warehouses, and the Zangara mill, from which the promenade takes its name. Moving east of Castellammare, you’ll find Playa Beach, the largest in the area, characterized by a wide sandy coastline and shallow waters. Following are the beaches of Vallone delle Ferle, or Vallone San Giuseppe, and Guidaloca Beach, one of the most famous in the area, partly sandy and partly with white gravel, featuring clear waters, with both private and free-access areas. Many other coves are nestled against white cliffs, such as the “Fossa dello Stinco,” accessible by dirt roads or by sea. Perfect for diving enthusiasts is Cala Rossa, in Contrada Guidaloca Ciavoli, characterized by white gravel and a red-colored rock that surrounds the cove and gives it its name. The sea offers depths waiting to be explored, including Cala Bianca, surrounded by pristine nature and clear waters. The coves within the Zingaro Nature Reserve are uniquely beautiful, such as Cala Mazzo di Sciacca, nestled in greenery with a splendid panoramic view, or Cala Tonnarella dell’Uzzo, accessible after approximately 700 meters of walking from the northern entrance (San Vito Lo Capo).
