Its name means “fruity”. This variety may have Iberian origins, but it has a very Sicilian tradition, with its heart in the eastern latitudes of the island. Tenacious and robust, this late-ripening vine is characterised by its compact, medium-sized clusters with blue ellipsoidal berries.
The wine that this variety produces is as sparkling as a ruby in its purity, and is also characterised by a fruity aroma. In the west of Sicily, frappato is blended with other varieties in the DOC of Alcamo and Erice.
