The Procession Of The “Living Mysteries” In Buseto Palizzolo
- 02/04/2023
Easter in Western Sicily is rich in celebrations that are deeply rooted in popular culture.
The procession of the “living Mysteries” in Buseto Palizzolo is unique in its kind, since the inhabitants of Buseto themselves get on the floats and depict the most important moments of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ with great emotional intensity.
Sixteen living pictures, displayed on scenic floats, alternating with groups of believers dressed in traditional penitential clothes, accompanied by marching band music. Every year, the Sacred Representation is re-proposed in an increasingly detailed and accurate form, thanks to a constant research activity into evangelical and historiography sources.
The procession of the Via Crucis through the picturesque streets of the town offers a variety of moments that can be enjoyed from daylight to nightfall: it is there that the procession as a whole reveals all its beauty and reaches the highest levels of expression.
Born more than forty years ago from an idea of some young locals who perceived the need to unite the town’s districts around a moment of authentic faith, the procession, nowadays, represents the full cultural identity of Buseto.
The event will be held again on the afternoon of 10 April, Palm Sunday, after a two-year hiatus, thanks to the passion and organisation of the Confraternita del Crocifisso.
