A dialect expression meaning time of plenty, theauspicious season gives its name to this event which is an ode to fishing and oily fish. In San Vito, a town that overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea and which has an important fishing fleet, dolphinfish (mahi-mahi) are fished between August and December close to the coast.
Late summer is the perfect time to discover the art of fishing, with its ancient rituals, stories and legends, and oily fish appears in local dishes according to traditional themed menus (including sardines, mackerel, silver scabbardfish and anchovies). A date for your diary!
