The Dominican preachers founded this convent in 1486, to which the church of San Michele was aggregated, constituting a cultural and religious centre for centuries and becoming a priory in 1670; the convent was subjected over time to various expansions and a restoration in 1858. 

The convent, until 1962 housed the elementary schools of Erice and since 1972 is one of the seats of the Foundation “Ettore Maiorana” called Blackett-San Domenico Institute.
