Summer is without doubt the prime season for visiting the west of Sicily. From the countryside to the seaside resorts, the whole area offers all the flavours, scents and colours of the liveliest season of the year.
San Vito is a popular summer destination, but if you’re not too keen on crowded beaches, you’ll be spoiled for choice here with the Macari coast and the Monte Cofano nature reserve, places that offer peace and quiet all year round.
Besides, from the “village of couscous” there are so many options, such as an afternoon walk in Erice or a morning in Trapani or on the beach in Custonaci.
In summer, Mazara del Vallo has it all: the beautiful beaches of the Tonnarella coast or the more rugged Puzziteddu beach, the charm of its Medina and historic centre and the flora and fauna of the wetland landscape of the Lago di Preola e Gorghi Tondi nature reserve. During the summer in Mazara del Vallo, you can also experience the San Vito festival, with its numerous traditions.

As well as your swimwear, don’t forget to pack some smart clothes, because in summer, the west of Sicily comes alive with important cultural initiatives. You can enjoy the spectacle of the sea in the morning and that of big events in the evening.
