Islamic Quarter Medina

Quartiere Islamico (Medina) Quartiere Islamico (Medina)
In the heart of the city there is a Medina also known as Casbah, in Arabic “fortified citadel”, the Saracen settlement built in the ninth century.

This district is one of the most fascinating port and it has been inhabited for centuries by fishermen from Mazara and Tunisia. Here you can find strong multicultural traits and religious syncretism.

The district maintains the charm of the ancient Arab cities, with its narrow winding streets, alleys and courtyards. The area has been embellished thanks to a street art project.

Thanks to this projects walls and houses have been decorated with hand-painted majolica, with drawings or references to the stories or legends of the area.

Along the alleys there are places where you can taste the delicious fish cous cous, a typical dish of the area.
