Cappella Santa Crescenzia

Cappella Santa Crescenzia Cappella Santa Crescenzia
Located almost at the entrance of the country, this small chapel that has a postcard background is a very suggestive element of the “monumental landscape” of San Vito, which announces the arrival in the territory of this sea village.

The building has a square plan, opened by ogival arches and is surmounted by a red dome with a raised arch. In it, different styles and influences, mainly Arab-Norman and Gothic, merge together in an original way, which are also connected to the numerous renovations that affected it.

The Chapel is dedicated to the holy nurse of San Vito who, according to tradition, would have been “petrified” by fear to see the avalanche that would have buried the village (whose location would be identified under the landslide Contrada Avalanche), whose inhabitants would not have listened to the preaching of San Vito.
