Sanctuary of San Vito Martire

The sanctuary rises in the place where the first chapel dedicated to the saint would have been built, on which the church-fortress would have then been implanted, a real ecclesia munita to defend the inhabitants of the village, as well as the faithful, and its treasures from the attacks of pirates.  

On its compact façade there is a rose window, some slits and balconies and a watchtower, part of the seventeenth-century defensive system conceived by the Florentine architect Camillo Camilliani. 

The major chapel dedicated to San Vito, depicted in the statue of the Gaginian school (1587) placed on the altar, is decorated with local marbles and stucco statues by Orazio Ferraro. 

Inside the church has been found a well probably used as a baptismal font.
