Sea caves

The caves of Marettimo

The caves of Marettimo The caves of Marettimo
The caves of Marettimo – with their “talking” names that anticipate the characteristics – are an experience to live, all to be discovered, some even only by sea: in them both the seabed and their internal geomorphological conformation: from the Grotta del Tuono to that of the Cammello that offers in the central hours of the day the rays of sunlight that sink into the blue of the sea water, an area also chosen by the monk seal to give birth and raise its young.

A pool of fresh water and the presence of remains of material culture characterizes the Grotta della Pipa, while not to be missed with its beautiful backdrop, sandy bottom, and a series of geological elements such as stalactites and stalagmites is Grotta Perciata, reachable by boat.

A splendid seabed also characterizes the Grotta del Presepe with its peculiar calcareous deposits, while Grotta Ficaredda offers shelter even to a protected species, the storm bird.

Finally, from the series of small caves Ruttiddi you can reach the Grotta degli Innamorati, while the Grotta della Bombarda allows you to admire inside a stalagmite, high almost at the entrance in the shape of mitria, the papal headdress, in addition to the suggestive backdrop.
