Monte Inici
Castellammare is surrounded by a mountainous complex that includes the high peaks of Monte Inici (1064 m) and Pizzo delle Niviere (1043 m), the mountains of Cozzo Monaco (773 m), Pizzo Brando (638 m) and Pizzo Stagnone (802 m).
The calcarenitic rock mountains are rich in conifers, cork oaks, downy oaks, holm oaks and a varied undergrowth. During excursions, one can admire a forest clearing, the Fosse del Bue, the Stagnone lake and the Vaccaria forest.
The rocks are always covered with plants such as the so-called “spaccapietre”. These mountains are known for their paths and the many caves formed as a result of the karstic system.
On the summit of Monte Inici, there are several scattered artificial cavities, formerly used for storing ice, also useful for preparing the typical granite.
