Processione Dei Misteri Viventi
Unlike processions in which groups of statues are carried, here it is the citizens of Buseto who arrange themselves on the floats to compose the scenes representing the salient moments of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ.
For the Busetan community, this is a very important period of gathering and sharing: they meditate with the help of the ecclesiastical assistant on the scenes depicted, rehearse the postures of the characters, check the effects of the lighting, and try on the costumes skilfully hand-sewn by the village seamstresses.
At 5 p.m., the figures settle on the floats, ready to pose for six long hours in the streets of the village. Crucifix and the valuable painting of Our Lady of Sorrows. This is followed by the moving sixteen floats accompanied by brass bands singing sweet funeral dirges.
When it is now night, the procession reaches the square in front of the Matrice from where the groups, making a U-turn, descend to position themselves shortly before midnight in Piazza Municipio, Buseto centre. The Holy Crucifix is slowly carried inside the Matrice accompanied by the last mournful notes. When by now it is late at night, the tired and tried faces of those who have silently suffered on the carts testify to an unspeakable mystical atmosphere and a profound sense of the sacred among the onlookers.
