The Museums of the Zingaro Nature Reserve

The Museums of the Zingaro Nature Reserve The Museums of the Zingaro Nature Reserve

During the mid-slope path of the Zingaro Nature Reserve, you will come across five small but precious museums: the Museum of Maritime Activities, the Museum of Peasant Civilization, the Museum of Weaving, the Museum of Manna, and the Naturalistic Museum.

Certainly, they all deserve a visit as they keep alive the memory of cultural heritage, local economy, and the richness of the territory. The Museum of Maritime Activities is the first museum encountered from the northern entrance, housed in an ancient tuna processing facility.

Continuing, you’ll find the Museum of Peasant Civilization, which illustrates the stages of grain processing and the tools of peasant life.

The Museum of Weaving is very fascinating, a section dedicated to craftsmanship, particularly the weaving of plant fibers like giumarra, disa, and rush. A unique experience is meeting the master weavers who demonstrate and teach the art of weaving. Continuing, inside a cave, you encounter the Museum of Manna, where tools for harvesting and preserving the bark of the ash tree, from which manna is derived, a sugary resin used as a sweetener, are displayed.

After a few meters, you reach the Naturalistic Museum where, through photographs and faithful reproductions, you discover the richness of biodiversity in flora and fauna that makes the Zingaro Reserve one of the most important naturalistic areas in the national ecosystem.
