Your bicycle adventure in western Sicily

If a bike is your best travelling companion, then you should definitely choose western Sicily as your destination for new cycling adventures.

Routes still unexplored, in the wilderness or through cities permeated by an unrivalled cultural heritage, passing through small villages, where the scent of freshly baked bread, “cunzato” as tradition dictates, will inevitably tempt you to taste it.

Cycle tourism in the western part of Sicily is above all exploration and adventure, an experience that appeals to all the senses and is unlikely to be forgotten.

Whether you take advantage of the mild winter, the sweetness of spring or a pleasant autumn, the only discriminating factor will be the time at your disposal. You can choose in fact between shorter routes – along state roads – or slower, more naturalistic tours, perhaps along dirt tracks.

There are a wide range of apps for Apple and Android smartphones to plan and track your journey in detail, which are also available for desktop use.

Komoot allows you to plan your route, taking into account the level of difficulty, distance, differences in height, with the possibility of using the maps even if you are offline.

Bikeroot is the largest collection of cycle routes in the world and offers the possibility to select various parameters: type of bike, length of route, gradient and more.

A tour of western Sicily by bike

Cycle up to Castellammare del Golfo, where you will see cliffs and sandy beaches. Continue exploring the Zingaro Nature Reserve until you reach Trapani.

Stop off in Marsala: a tour of the wine cellars and a visit to the saltworks. Now reach Mazara del Vallo and explore the Islamic quarter (Medina). You can then continue to Selinunte, where you will discover the archaeological park.

If you want to compare notes with other cyclists or find out more about destinations not to be missed, the most suitable routes and services dedicated to bicycle tourism, we also recommend the first edition of the Cyclotourism Fair. The Sicilian Region’s Department of Tourism will also be there to guide you on your next open-air adventure.
