Museum of Mediterranean Patterns
Born and sponsored by the Orestiadi Foundation, the museum is located within the Baglio Di Stefano in Gibellina and aims to protect and safeguard the cultural heritage of the region. It is no coincidence that this museum is located in Western Sicily, a land that has always been a stage for intercultural dialogue in the Mediterranean.
Therefore, Arnaldo Pomodoro’s ingenious machines, Mimmo Paladino’s ‘Salt Mountain’ used as a set design for the 1990 Orestiadi, together with Emilio Isgrò’s 1982 set design, are just a foretaste of how the present is in continuous dialogue with Arab motifs and geometries, but also with sculptures, paintings, terracottas, tapestries and jewellery from different eras.
A comparative reading of artistic and cultural diversity that continues to expand humanity’s great store of knowledge and culture.
