Lazzaretto

Lazzaretto Lazzaretto
The Lazzaretto was born as a place of isolation for those infected with infectious diseases who had landed at the port of Trapani. For this reason, it was built on the small island of Sant’Antonio, which housed an ancient church dedicated to this saint.

Its structure – started in 1831 by the will of Lieutenant General Giovan Battista Fardella – was functional to the isolation, with a semi-circular inner courtyard on which faced the quarantine accommodation. Remained in operation until 1885, is now the local headquarters of the Italian Naval League.
