Jesuit College
The architectural plan and the prospectus are decorated with capitals and entablatures, it leads to a square portico with round arches on columns with Doric capitals. The ceramic and marble flooring covers all the floors of the building. The second floor, connected by a monumental marble staircase, is decorated with frescoes by Domenico La Bruna.
The Jesuit College is now an exhibition centre dedicated to archaeological finds of the Roman age discovered in the Mediterranean Sea and contemporary works of art of Pippo Rizzo, Michele Dixit, Gianbecchina, Enzo Santostefano and Rosa Ferreri, together with sculptural and pictorial works of the artist Pietro Consagra from Mazara. The City of Mazara del Vallo, in collaboration with the Foundation Orestiadi, has set up a permanent exhibition in memory of this important artist in 2020, the centenary of his birth (Mazara del Vallo 1920-Milan 2005). The exhibition includes an important collection of graphic works (lithographs, etchings, aquatints, screen prints) – for the first time studied and catalogued – of thirty years of production of this great master, a symbolic figure of the art of the twentieth century.
