Church of the Madonna del Carmelo

Church of the Madonna del Carmelo Church of the Madonna del Carmelo
The church dedicated to the patroness, Maria SS. del Carmelo, is located in the city center. It was built in 1695 by Nicolò Gervasi as a countryside chapel for the few inhabitants of the area.

The sacred building was rebuilt in the mid-19th century on the initiative of chaplain Don Giuseppe Poma with popular support. The population had already moved from Monte San Giuliano, and the inhabited center was forming.

The church was expanded and embellished at the end of the same century on the initiative of Canon Biagio Maranzano. The family tombs of the Fontana family are located in the church.
